Founded in Leicester, England, during 1974 by 12 enthusiastic family history historians, the society, which is run by volunteers, has grown to around 2,000 members, who live in the United Kingdom and in different countries across the world. The society has embraced the latest technology and has, within its own library, access to online family history websites such as Ancestry and Find My Past. The society also has its own Facebook page.
The LRFHS Members’ Interests Service has been temporarily suspended while new data permissions are sought
(see item in March 2018 journal). Apologies - the service will be resumed as soon as possible.
The Leicestershire and Rutland Family History
Society website was begun in 2001 by the late Mr George Smith. Following Mr.
Smith's death the site was maintained by Webmaster and Chairman of the Society
Mr. Peter Cousins.
LRFHS is looking for a new Webmaster and would welcome a volunteer to take on this role. It is
the intention of the committee to build on the foundations of the work that was
begun by George Smith and maintained with great zeal by Peter Cousins over many
the latter the committee and membership extend their gratitude for all the
effort that has been put into maintaining this site.

the skills to become the LRFHS Webmaster please contact:
