MEMBERSHIP PAYMENTS BY STANDING
ORDERS
The
membership subscriptions increased for 2010 and we notified all standing order
payers through the journal to alter their payments with their banks. Out of over
600 members who pay by standing order,
over 340 members did not do this,
and it has meant an immense amount of extra work for our Membership Secretary
Liz Adams and extra costs to the Society in postage etc to contact these members.
To date, after several reminders, we are still owed the balance of membership
payments from over 130 members.
Can I please ask all of you who pay by standing order to check your bank
statements and see if you have underpaid. The membership rates for 2010 should
be: single £13 (underpayment £3.50), family £15 (underpayment £4.50) and
overseas £15 (underpayment £4.50). The shortfall in payment means that we can
only issue those who have underpaid with 3 journals this year instead of 4.
If you are not sure if you have underpaid, you can check on-line at
www.lrfhs.org.uk/underpaid
where we have posted a list just showing your membership number and surname. You
can send the underpayment directly to Liz Adams (address inside the front cover)
and please state your membership number.
Alternatively you can pay on-line at:
www.lrfhs.org.uk/outstanding.htm
If you have underpaid can you please make sure that you alter your standing
order payment for 2011 – due from 1st January – otherwise we are
going to have the same situation arising next year. If you are not renewing your
membership can you please inform Liz Adams.

We recognise that this change may
inconvenience some of our visitors, but our research shows less than
0.5% of our readers use our facilities for six consecutive days a
week. We are committed to and will continue to support high quality
scholarly research at our facilities in Kew, including services for
the academic community.
2)
A charge will be introduced for use of our public car
park. From April 2010, there will be a charge of £5 per day and
discounted annual tickets will be available (savings will be
dependent on the emissions level of the car).. In addition we will
be allocating a limited number of free tickets to regular unpaid
volunteers, who are making a significant contribution on key
projects.
3)
We will move some more of our microfilm and microfiche
records to storage at the end of this year, providing primary access
in our reading rooms through digital means. This is part of a
ongoing programme that has been running for several years to replace
film and fiche with digital images. We will continue to work with
our commercial partners to ensure even higher levels of accuracy of
the indexing information provided. For those who need to see the
microform it will still be available, on request.
4)
We will also ensure our records experts are available to
our visitors when they are most needed. Following consultation
we will continue to provide expert advice in the Map and Large
Document reading room for all the hours we are open. Elsewhere
records expertise will be focused on busier periods of the day, when
it is most needed.
5)
We will be introducing the new streamlined online record
copying service in late 2009/early 2010. This will help simplify
the current online and telephone ordering processes.
