Suffragettes & Granny Rawle
Mick
Rawle
The move to the new venue for the Leicester Group
seems to be a popular choice
as 60 members and visitors turned out on a cold
January night at Age Concern in Wigston
to see the talk by Mick Rawle entitled
“Suffragettes and Granny Rawle”
Many regulars of the Leicester group meetings
attended, along with a lot of new faces.
Mick gave us an excellent presentation about the
Suffragette movement and his own
Grandmother’s exploits, including a spell in
Holloway Prison! She was a leading light
in the movement, who kept a wonderful collection
of memorabilia of the events.
Mick only found out 4 years ago about his
Granny’s chequered past, and his diligent
research in to her activities certainly brought
to life the struggle of the women in those days.
