The research centre has now been in operation for nearly a month!
We are happy to say that the centre is now additionally open on Wednesday afternoons from 1pm to 3pm.
We can accommodate 6 visitors at a time and we have volunteers who can offer help if required.
The lumps and bumps are being ironed out and things are slowly getting back to a form of normality.
On Friday afternoon we were very pleased to welcome members of Leicester U3A Family History Group to our Research Centre.

Wednesday the 2nd of February 2022 - Update!

Research Centre at Every Street Opens on Wednesday 9th February !!

We are very pleased to announce that our new Research is finally going to open.
Initially we will be open for three days each week.

Opening times for week beginning 7th February 2022

Wednesday 9th : 10.30am - 12.30pm
Thursday 10th : 10.30am - 12.30pm and 1pm- 3pm
Friday 11th : 10.30 - 12.30pm and 1-3pm.

As the number of computers is limited, all members must book ahead (up to 7 days) ahead of their visit 0116 2559738.

Our phone booking lines will be open this week as below -
Thursday 3rd February 11am - 3pm and Friday 4th February 1.30 - 3pm.

Going forward, phone lines will staffed during Wednesday/Thursday/Friday opening hours (as above).
We will not, unfortunately, be able to take any bookings via answer machine message.
Please bear with us during the first few weeks of opening as, inevitably, there will be teething
problems as we all get used to our new venue.

Please note that our library subscription to Find My Past doesn’t provide free access to the new census release.

Volunteers will be sanitising tables, keyboards, chairs etc between 12.30-1pm and at 3pm ready for the next day.
Wearing masks will be optional.

An intercom system (left hand side of main door) will give access to the building.
The Society’s centre is on the 2nd floor and is accessed either by stairs or a lift.
At present, we do not unfortunately have an area for tea/coffee/food.
Several cafes are in the area where visitors can go for refreshments if they are planning all day research.

We are in need of more volunteers so we can open on Wednesday afternoons/have cover for volunteer absences.
If you could help/would like to find out more, please email our Volunteers Co-Ordinator Sue Murphy on susan-murphy@talktalk.net

Sunday the 2nd of January 2022 - Update!

Happy New Year to All of our members and guests, old and new!!

We are hoping to be able to open the new research centre as soon as we can.
Things are finally starting to come together! There has been, and continues to be, a lot of hard work in the background to get ready for the opening.
The final delay may be the replacement of the centres windows, but we have no date for this as yet.
The release of the Find My Past 1921 Census on January the 6th will certainly get peoples attention.
Keep checking back for further updates!

Wednesday the 15th of December 2021 - Update!

Things have been really quiet here in the last few weeks.
The lighting has been upgraded and the work is now complete.
The work has now been completed on the intercom for access to the centre!
We await confirmation of when the windows will be replaced.Probably next year now.
Our trial opening highlighted that we really are not ready for opening this year.
May we wish you all a Merry Christmas and a prosperous New year from all at the LRFHS!
We look forward to seeing you at the centre as soon as we can in 2022.

Wednesday the 16th of November 2021 - Update!

Things are starting to get moving again after a period of quiet.
We have heard that the windows are being replaced ( maybe next year.)
The lighting is being upgraded, and finally, the main entrance intercom system
will be changed so we can consider opening the centre!
Plans are being made to ready for an opening date, but as yet, no date has been agreed.

Saturday the 2nd of October 2021 - Update!

As of today no further news re intercom system from the council.
An email requesting an update as to where we are with these issues has been sent to the council.
We have not been contacted regarding the re-wiring at this time.
Please note that we will only have updates from today if things change in the future.

Wednesday the 21st of September 2021 - Update!

We are still waiting for the intercom system to be updated!!
Without these changes , we cannot let people into the centre.
Further sorting of our records and shelves to make life easier for all.
Things are going to be quiet now until the access system is working, so please be patient.

This is completely out of our control, so we await the Councils completion of this work.

Wednesday the 15th of September 2021 - Update!

You may have seen on our Facebook page, that we have been informed that the building is going to be rewired.
We believe that this is just the lighting , but this may change..
We have not been informed of when this will happen, but we will have prior notice.
We do not know how long this may interfere with our centre, but we do know it will add to the delay of opening.

Tuesday the 7th of September 2021 - Update!

Today had two milestones for the Society.
First, we held our first Committee meeting in our new research centre!
Second, we had physical and virtual attendees using Zoom as a hybrid meeting.
It was nice to meet people in the flesh who we had not seen for some time due to the Covid situation.
Some learning curves here, and some computer tweaks required to hit our requirements before opening.
Due to the lack of access for the public, because facilities are still to be installed, the opening date is still not confirmed.

Wednesday the 1st of September 2021 - Update!

Our computer networks have been setup and are getting ready for use.
Still work to be done on our timetables for support staff and our new opening hours for Every Street.
We are still waiting for the modifications to the intercom and buzzer though.

Wednesday the 25th of August 2021 - Update!

We are now awaiting the setting up of our computer networks before making any further progress.
This could be a few weeks due to technical availability.
Other work is continuing, for example agreeing booking systems and opening times.
These will be come public knowledge when there are ready for use.

Friday the 20th of August 2021 - Update!

Work has been ongoing this week, but after last weeks hard slog, a bit of a breather was required.
The intercom system work is being tendered for by the Council, but as yet we have no date for completion.
All of the new computers have now arrived awaiting setting up and connecting to our network.

Friday the 13th of August 2021 - Our move to Every Street is completed!

The move has now been finished and we are now in our new location in Every Street.
Our new address is :-
Rutland Suite, 2nd floor, 7-9 Every Street, Leicester, LE1 6AG.

We are not open for business yet, so please do not visit or contact us as we are very busy getting the centre ready for opening.

Thursday the 12th of August 2021

The new room(s) are smaller than we have been used to, but hopefully adequate for our needs. The second floor office space is visited by utilising either the lift or several fights of stairs, if you feel up to it! There are also toilets available on the same floor if you drink too much coffee whilst researching!

The first picture is taken from the research room looking out into the Town Square. The second picture is taken from the reception office looking out into Town Square. The final picture shows the overall size of our new research centre. As can be seen, the staff and helpers are still hard at work on your behalf. Squeezing everything in is proving challenging but will be worth all the hard work in the end. The progress that has been made in a few days is astounding, don't you think!

Here you can see the great work that is being done to organise and structure the new research centre. The remaining images are of the little Coffee shop based in a chapel. This is becoming a popular watering hole for all of the staff.

Tuesday the 11th of August 2021

A bright new day dawns for the removal teams and helpers.

All of the pictures show the views from and of the research room where the bulk of our storage is to be found. As can be seen, there are many boxes to be emptied and organised! A nice little coffee / sandwich shop is to be found over to the left in the square in a existing old chapel. Tried and tested by all involved at some time through the day and highly recommended!

Monday the 9th of August 2021 - Moving from Pilot House starts!

At 0930 we began the long awaited move of the LRFHS research Centre from Pilot House to Every Street. Many hands are available to help with the move at both sites including some very keen and helpful removal lads!
