Baptisms Registers & Surname Indexes for 4 Leicester churches:
Christ Church, Leicester
Christ Church baptism register has been recorded and indexed from 1839 to 1921 – a total of 82 years and 6,175 baptisms.
St Matthew’s Church, Leicester
St Matthew’s baptism register had been recorded and indexed from 1867 to 1921 – a total of 54 years and 14,897 baptisms.
St Mark’s Church, Leicester
St Mark’s baptism register has been recorded and indexed from 1872 to 1921 – a total of 49 years and 10,917 baptisms. Notes in the register indicate that baptisms of 252 parishioners from St Faith’s area (located in Brandon Street) are also included between 1894 and 1902 (no separate register created). Also there are 170 entries for St Alban’s area (from 1898 to 1900) until the establishment of a separate register.
St Alban’s Church, Leicester
St Alban’s baptism register has been recorded and indexed from 1903 to 1921 – a total of 18 years and 1,338 baptisms. Originally recorded and noted in St Mark’s register a separate record appears from 1903 where the vicar noted the first three years baptisms took place in an ‘old iron church building in Bardolph Street and from 11 February 1906 in the new church in Harrison Road.
These four churches were/are situated to the north east side of the town/city, clustered east from St Margaret’s Church.
