Description
Absent Voters Lists for Leicestershire 1918 and 1919.
This CD contains a surname/forename index of people away from home (Absent Voters), when Electoral Registers were compiled for the General Election in December 1918. The Registers were updated in spring and autumn 1919 but names only appear once in the index if the address is the same, occasionally people were registered at two addresses. Also included is a (useful) town/village/hamlet and division index. The four divisions for Leicestershire were Bosworth, Harborough, Loughborough and Melton.
Fortunately, in Leicestershire personal details survived, (for example, rank, name of regiment and regimental number or ship etc) and are included in the Electoral Registers Absent Voters section. However, this index only records the surname/forename, voter number, village and division, plus the street name if given (but no house number).
The Electoral Registers (including Absent Voters Lists) for Leicestershire are the property of Leicestershire County Council. The original books can be seen at the Records Office for Leicestershire, Leicester and Rutland.
