Leicestershire Registration Districts Marriage Indexes 1912-1920 & Marriage Church Finder 1921-1946 CD 153

Description

The General Register Office (GRO) records marriages by year and quarter, listing each quarter in parish order, followed by Register Office and Non-Conformists marriages. This CD is a continuation from CD 111, which covered Leicester City Registration District, and covers the Southern Leicestershire County Registration Districts, namely Billesdon, Blaby, Hinckley, Lutterworth and Market Harborough. It lists marriages for Anglican and Non-Conformist churches from 1912 to 1920 in the same format, with spouses and dates. Some of the Non-Conformists’ indexes had to be ‘reconstructed’ from Registrars’ Indexes and other sources, and so dates of marriages for these are not available. Each Registration District is covered separately. This list is also shown in Date and  Alphabetical Surname order for each Registration District.

The Marriage Church Finder is an alternative index for finding marriage venues after 1920. Data Protection laws make it difficult to list names in indexes after this date, but where a marriage took place can usually be seen if the GRO volume and page reference for the marriage is known. This Church Finder is for Leicestershire Registration Districts marriages (volume 7a) in the districts as listed below. It covers the period from the March quarter 1921 up to the June quarter 1946, when the Districts changed volume number to 3a. It covers every quarter between these dates and lists the start and finish page numbers for each Anglican Church in the District, as well as the Non-Conformist Churches, which had their own marriage registers. The only page numbers not listed are for marriages at the Leicestershire District Register Offices or ones at churches attended by the Registrar (and so will be in the Registrar’s book). These would be small churches that did not have the authority to register their own marriages, and the services had to have the Registrar present.
