For those new to Family History: The GRO (General Register Office) record marriages by year and quarter. Each quarter is listed alphabetically by parish/village with all the Register Office & Non-Conformist events listed at the end. They are given page numbers and so can be sorted into pairs.
The task was to find all the Church of England Marriages for each village in the district and find who married who and where. Of the almost 7,000 names listed over 600 were not found consequently there are some names at the end of each quarter which have GRO references but no information. These must be considered to be non conformist or Register Office marriages and where the registers are not available – only 10 church marriages were not found! Should anyone have any ‘missing’ marriages to add to the index – please let us know.
This project would not be possible without all the help given by John Dyson (East Norton), Maureen Bullows (Tugby) and Adam Goodwin at the Record Office of Leicester, Leicestershire & Rutland and finally Peter Cousins for producing the CD.
Many Thanks to them all. Joan Rowbottom
