Description

Transcription of Welford Road Cemetery burial records from 28 November 1947 to 31 December 2000.

The aim of this project was to transcribe the data from the Welford Road Cemetery Burial Record Books kept by Leicester City Council Bereavement Services Department and produce a searchable index of the records. The transcription work was carried out at the Bereavement Services offices at Gilroes Crematorium and was done by Leicestershire & Rutland Family History Society member volunteers.

This is a companion CD to the first one (CD71) and covers from 28 November 1947 for unconsecrated burials and consecrated burials from 31 December 1953 to 31 December 2000. These dates follow on from where CD71 finished. This period includes over 11,000 burials and disposal of cremation ashes and urns.

Also included on the CD are the layout plans of the cemetery sections.

File Types

There are 3 Indexes as below and each is split into 3 files to make the loading quicker:

• BURIALS – Presenting the transcribed records in their original order
• SURNAMES – Listing all of the burials together alphabetically
• PLOTS – These plots are listed alphabetically in both Consecrated (C) and Unconsecrated (U) sections with people buried in each plot.

Note that stillborns and very young babies were buried commonly and there are many burials in each of these plots.
