Monumental Inscriptions of Leicestershire.. CD 128

Description

The Monumental Inscriptions index of Leicestershire has been collated from Churchyards / Graveyards / Cemeteries / Churches (inside), giving the names, date of death and where applicable, the age of the person commemorated. Dates range from 1384 to 1999. However, there is not total coverage of all places.

Information is taken mainly from gravestones but also from plaques or other memorials. War Memorials (en masse) are omitted, but a name mentioned on an individual gravestone or a relative’s gravestone will be listed. There is no guarantee that the person is buried where the memorial is situated.

Please note – this is NOT a transcription of the memorial or the books, booklets and past/current surveys – merely an index of names to be used as a ‘finding aid’. Further details might be found on the source quoted in the index, but of course, the original memorial is the primary source to be consulted (although many will not have survived). We have not been able to verify any of the data used from past surveys, nor can we guarantee that a 2017 survey compiled by our volunteers is accurate or complete, as difficult-to-read gravestones have not been included.
